Who We Are

We are a new Bible–centred church in Marske, seeking to worship God together at an hour-long service starting at 4.30pm on a Sunday afternoon and then again midweek for Prayer and Bible study.

Our first meeting was at Marske Cricket Club in August 2020, followed by services at the Marske Leisure Centre, and now at Marske Methodist Church.

We come from a wide variety of backgrounds, joined together by our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and our desire to reach out to meet the needs of the community in Marske and on the Ings estate in Redcar.

All are Welcome

Our Beliefs

We believe that God loves each person on earth and desires a personal relationship with each of us, made possible by the death and sacrifice of Jesus. Your background, gender, age, social or financial standing are immaterial to us – you are all welcome, and will be made very welcome when you visit us.

We are informal, relational, and desire to be of service to all we come into contact with, not just those attending our services.

We look forward to meeting you!

Decision Making

Our decision making is taken by the whole congregation, and are currently led by the 5 people who had the original vision to start a new church.

Our services are planned by Ruth Fox, who has previous experience of being a church leader, and who is the leader and founder of the Footprints in the Community charity, and John Singleton, a retired Baptist minister, both of whom live in Marske.

Our Beliefs

The Divine inspiration of Holy Scriptures as originally given (2 Timothy 3:15-17)

The Unity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in the Godhead (John 17:3 & 21)

The universal sinfulness of man rendering him subject to God’s condemnation (Isaiah 53:6; John 3:36)

Redemption from the penalty and power of sin only through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ the Incarnate Son of God (2 Corinthians 5:15–21)

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:3-8)

The indwelling and work of the Holy Spirit in the Believer (Ephesians 1:13)

The personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 1:6-11)

One Holy Church, the Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:4-6)

There are two sacraments or ordinances, which are Believers’ Baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper or Communion (Acts 2: 38, Acts 8:38-39, Romans 6:4, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

Our Team & Leadership

Ruth Fox

Hi!  I’m very happy to be part of this new, emerging, friendly Church here in Marske.  We believe God has great things in store for us!

I’m mum to three boys, and am blessed with 5 grandchildren.  I’m married to Geoff and we live in Marske … I love Marske!   I’m originally from Bootle in Liverpool – but please don’t hold that against me!  I’ve lived here in the North East for over 30 years now so definitely call this my home now.

I’m CEO and founder member of Footprints in the Community – a charity based in Redcar – who exist to help reduce poverty and isolation.  We run a number of projects including Redcar Area Foodbank, Next Step Shops, The Shed …. to name but a few.   I have a real heart for our community and believe God created me to love and support others.

I am John’s wife and we have been married for 55 years!
I have enjoyed serving with John in his ministry and looking after the family at home.
My gifting is pastoral care and I enjoy visiting or telephoning church folk when they aren’t feeling well.
I have in the past worked in residential care as an activities co-ordinator.
I am part of the leadership team in Marske Community Church.

Hi, I’m John. I am fortunate that I have had 2 careers in my working life – firstly as a computer salesman, 17years of which were with IBM. Then secondly as an ordained Baptist minister, serving firstly for 10 years as a pastor of a small church near Frinton on Sea, Essex, and then in 2003 moving up to the North East to serve the Baptist churches in the area as a regional minister, again for 10 years before retiring in 2012. Since then, I have had 2 spells of helping churches whilst they were without a minister, firstly in Nottingham and secondly in Oundle, apart from being part of a local Baptist church. Like Ruth, I count it a privilege to live in Marske and to be part of the leadership of Marske Community Church, which we hope and pray will be a blessing to the people of Marske, The Ings and the surrounding areas.

I was born and raised in Erith, on the borders of Kent and Greater London, near the Dartford tunnel and bridge! I came to know Jesus as my personal Saviour and Lord in my early teens and have sought to follow Him for the rest of my life. I have been married to Enid for over 50 years and have 2 daughters, a son and 5 grandchildren. I am a big football fan, having supported West Ham United for over 50 years!

Hello!  I am 71 years of age, married to Ann for nearly half of my life, I also became a follower of Jesus in that time.  We retired to Marske two years ago and have become part of this fellowship at Marske Community Church since then.  I feel honoured to be chosen as a trustee and treasurer.

My life is like a game of two halves.  In the first half and without God, I worked in garages, factories, a safari park and casinos at home and abroad.  The second half since I met Jesus and Ann I have worked in care homes, child protection teams and then for 20 years as a foster carer with Cornerstone – a Christian fostering and adoption agency.

I am also a trustee and treasurer of a supported housing charity.  When I can, I play golf.  Despite my love of numbers, I can best describe myself as a people person who loves to see anyone connect with God.

What To Expect

A friendly welcome!  As you arrive you will be given a friendly welcome by one of our welcome team.  We hope you will feel at ease – although we appreciate it can be difficult walking into somewhere new.

Our service starts at 4.30pm, but people start arriving from 4.15pm.  There is usually music playing and people having a natter.  The service generally lasts between 1hour – 1 ¼ hours.

We love to welcome children!  We don’t currently have Sunday School but we do provide activity sheets and have regular children’s talks.

Dress code ….. there isn’t one!  Come as you wish –  jeans, tee-shirt, posh dress – whatever you are comfortable with.

We usually sing a few songs – sometimes we have worship leaders, sometimes we sing along to videos.  We have a sharing time, time for prayer and a message or sermon.

After the service we enjoy a cuppa in the hall at the back.  This is a great opportunity to get to know one another.
